Lau Wai was born in 1982 in Hong Kong. They received their M.F.A. Visual Arts from Columbia University, School of the Arts, New York, in 2020.
Lau Wai is a multidisciplinary artist working across moving images, 3D animation, digital interactive media, photography, and installation. Their practice utilizes personal and historical archives, cinematic imagery, popular culture, and emerging technologies to explore how history, fiction, personal memory, and virtuality intersect in the process of identity formation, as well as the impact of artificial intelligence, data generation, and virtual experiences on contemporary society.
Lau Wai currently lives and works in Hong Kong.
